Artist's comment: "If you get the idea that the dad represented in the painting is saving his daughter from some drastic situation, like going over the side of the cliff, you’re mistaken. In her attempt to make her way down a tricky ledge, symbolic of life, the dad sees a father’s opportunity to help. The hand to steady her, just in case, is not given after she stumbles but is given to see that she doesn’t stumble! When that kind of concern is put into practice, it’s then we realize that we are not acting without support. Heaven goes into action. Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” That’s plenty of incentive for me to keep helping my kids till they are safely home."
