  Artwork: Baptism of the Christ
  Artist: BONNELL, Daniel
  Date:
  Technique: Painting
  Location: St. George's Cathedral, Jerusalem
Notes: Images on Christ Project. Matthew 3:16f. Artist's comment: "Here is a symbolistic painting of Christ and His sacrifice for us, his death on the cross. Here we see the true baptism of Christ acknowledging his sacrifice on the cros at the end of his earthly ministry. The theme of the cross is evident. In The Baptism of the Christ the sun represents the Father. Here we see the Father enveloping him in baptism. The symbolism is evident; from the Father (sun) through the Son to the viewer, or mankind (the reflection which bleeds off the canvas). This is perhaps the most dramatic of all the paintings in the exhibition. It is a clashing of a symbol. It is the final note of a musical orchestration ending a long movement or arrangement; it is the moment of resurrection."
