Notes: Host's comment: "“Your reward for trusting Him will be the salvation of your souls.” I Peter 1:9. This last century has produced more martyrs for the sake of faith in Christ than in all the previous centuries combined – over 119 million. This century the death toll continues to rise. Safely Home is a depiction of the victorious side of martyrdom. The long awaited embrace from our Master and Savior is more than enough reward for the saint who followed in His footsteps. In the painting, Christ steps off His throne to greet the new arrival with the same love that He once demonstrated on a cross outside of Jerusalem 2,000 years ago. As promised, He has gone ahead to prepare a place for this martyr. Safely Home shows that death is just the beginning of life…not the end." Artist's note: "Notice in the painting that the martyr has received his crown - that’s what we will lay at Christ’s feet (Rev. 4). Christ however focuses on the martyr not his crown because people have always been more important to Him than things. He gave His life to prove that. The red runner points to the identifying crown – a crown of thorns that will forever stand as the one He wore for us. An angel stands by waiting with a white garment to replace the tattered clothes of this life. Now that the chains are off, the martyr is free to dress for eternity. The floor is a map of the world, as Christ is ever conscious of where His children are suffering. In church, we often sing, “What a day that will be, when my Jesus I will see....” Safely Home is a visual interpretation of that day."
