Host's comment: "This timeless epic painting illustrates the story of the prodigal son told in Luke 15. Though the events were told 2,000 years ago, the parable is relevant to each person today. God, as our Father, is waiting for us to run to Him...to come home. When we do, we are welcomed back, forgiven of our wrongdoing and given a new heritage that can only be offered by Him. The Prodigal depicts this moment in time and shows it as a meeting of the contemporary world and the ancient reminding us that God yearns for all His “prodigals” to return to Him. Luke 15:11-31."
Artist's note: "The universal appeal of this painting has made it one of my favorites. The relevance that it continues to have to our generation affirms to me that Luke 15 is as potent today as it was 2,000 years ago. This scene of a “father” accepting his son “just as he is” happens everyday on a spiritual level. It can happen to you as well! “When he, (the son) came to his senses…” (Luke 15:17). Have you come to your senses? Have you recognized that there is a God, and it’s not you? Has there been a time when a heavenly tug so gripped your heart that it was unmistakably God trying to show you His ultimate love through the gift of His Son? If the answer is “yes” then what was your response? Probably pretty close to the son represented in the painting, I would guess. It sure was mine. If you haven’t answered that tug yet, then today could be your day. A simple recognition of your inability to stand before a righteous God and a prayer to accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord is all that is needed. Then you will really understand this painting."
