Notes: Host's comment: "Naomi has returned from Moab to Bethlehem with her young daughter-in-law, Ruth, a Moabitess. They are both widows. Ruth meets Boaz, a kinsman of Naomi, when she begins to glean leftover grain in his barley field. He desires to make her his wife, but as he is the second closest male relative of Naomi's family , he must convince the first in line to relinquish his right. Pictured are Naomi and Ruth awaiting the outcome of Boaz's legal efforts. Naomi encourages Ruth to patiently wait, "Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day." Meanwhile, at the city gate where a hearing was conducted before the elders of the city, the closer male relative gives up his rights of redemption and his shoe (as was the custom) to Boaz. This painitng depicts Boaz entering the house with the good news and the shoe. Boaz, the kinsman redeemer, marries Ruth who will become the great grandmother of King David and in this messianic royal line will ultimately be born Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of Mankind. Read the Book of Ruth, writings of the Old Testament Prophets of God, and the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John in the New Testament to understand the significance of this historical event."
